Job Summary
The Behavioral Health Assessment Specialist conducts consultative behavioral health assessments via phone and telehealth platforms, performing psychiatric triage, determining appropriate level of care, and coordinating placement or referral services. This role supports behavioral health access across affiliated and non-affiliated facilities and plays a key role in improving patient flow from emergency departments and inpatient settings into behavioral health programs. The Behavioral Health Assessment Specialist ensures timely access to definitive care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and clinical best practices.
Essential Functions
Qualifications
Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing, or a related behavioral health field required Ph.D. preferred 3-5 years of experience in behavioral health assessment, crisis intervention, or psychiatric care required Experience with telehealth or access center models preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills across diverse patient populations. Knowledge of behavioral health regulations, including EMTALA and applicable licensing or accrediting standards. Proficiency in telehealth technologies and electronic documentation systems. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service and patient-centered care. Ability to prioritize, multitask, and collaborate effectively across disciplines.Licenses and Certifications
Licensed in the state of residence without restrictions (LCSW, LPC/MHSP, LMFT, PMHNP, or Psychologist), with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states required
