Director of Pharmacy
Job Description

Job Summary 

The Director, Pharmacy leads the Pharmacy department, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications across the organization. This role involves managing daily pharmacy operations, overseeing clinical pharmacy services, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care. The Director also focuses on regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and staff development. 

Essential Functions

Oversees all aspects of the inpatient pharmacy, including medication dispensing, inventory management, and compliance with regulatory standards. Supervises and mentors pharmacy staff, providing guidance and support to enhance their professional development and performance. Works closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement pharmaceutical care plans, ensuring appropriate medication therapy management. Establishes and maintains quality control measures, monitor medication use, and implement corrective actions as needed to ensure patient safety and optimal therapeutic outcomes. Develops, reviews, and enforces pharmacy policies and procedures to comply with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices. Assists in the preparation and management of the pharmacy budget, ensuring cost-effective medication use and resource allocation. Provides ongoing education and training to pharmacy staff and other healthcare providers regarding medication management and safety practices. Leads initiatives aimed at improving pharmacy services and patient care outcomes, including participation in multidisciplinary committees and projects. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy required Other Pharmacy residency training (PGY1 or PGY2) preferred 7-9 years of experience in pharmacy required 3-6 years of progressive leadership experience in a hospital pharmacy setting required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge of pharmacy regulations, medication management, and clinical pharmacy practices. Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a complex healthcare environment. Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high clinical quality and business appropriateness. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. A natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance and is able to manage multiple projects. Mature, credible, reliable, tolerant, and determined. Empathic communicator, able to see things from the other person's point of view. Keen for new experience, responsibility and accountability. Team-player with the ability to persuade and sell ideas and concepts.

Licenses and Certifications

RPH - Registered Pharmacist as required by State required BCPS - Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist or other BPS specialty preferred
