Job Description:
The Communications Specialist (CS) receives, processes, and transmits communications for patient transport utilizing radios, telephone and computer aided dispatch, (CAD), software in accordance with regulations guided by the Federal Aviation Administration, (FAA), Federal Communications Commission, (FCC), as well as Commission Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) in addition to state and local EMS agency regulations. Communications Specialists maintain records and Communications Center related documentation of air and ground patient transport requests. They are accountable for the prioritization and coordination of safe and efficient transport, while serving as a liaison between hospitals, public safety and EMS agencies facilitating patients to definitive care.Essential Functions
Receives incoming patient transport requests in a hospital or pre-hospital setting. Coordinates the closest, safest, and most appropriate asset for transport, while following all appropriate guidelines, policies, and protocols.Facilitates positive relationships with referring and receiving facilities and receiving facilities to ensure a safe, coordinated, and expeditious response for emergency services. Demonstrates a clear understanding of policies and procedures and executes them as necessary.Ensures accuracy and completion of transport documentation. Participates in continuing education and required certification. Participates in system-wide quality improvement effort to continuously review, evaluate and revise processes for continued improvement. Utilizes understanding of medical equipment used and its limitations in a ground transport setting.Skills

Demonstrated dispatch experience with 911 (Public Safety), EMS agency or HUC (Health Unit Coordinator), experience in a hospital environment Intermediate computer proficiencyTyping speed (minimum 40 wpm)Preferred Qualifications
One year dispatch experience with 911 (Public Safety), EMS agency, HUC (Health Unit Coordinator), or other experience in a hospital environment. Demonstrated experience working in a clinical setting (MA, CNA, Technician, EMT or Paramedic) Ability to perform complex tasks, prioritize multiple requests and manages patient transport in a fast-paced environment Excellent customer service skills Strong verbal and written communication Basic medical terminology Previous experience with FAA, (Federal Aviation), FCC, (Federal Communication Commission, CAMTS, (Commission Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems), regulations and requirements in a medical transport communications center environment.Physical Requirements:
