Outpatient Pharmacy Manager

Job Description:

The Pharmacy Manager I is responsible for Managing all aspects of their assigned pharmacy team and functions. The Manager monitors productivity and develops and implements continuous improvement efforts. Ensures a positive customer service experience and that the best possible operational and clinical outcomes are achieved. Typically, this position leads a team of less than thirty pharmacy or support caregivers, including Team Leads and Pharmacy technician Supervisors or has broad oversight for multiple units or practice areas, as well as department responsibilities with highly-complex processes or workflows and may have limited system-level responsibilities such as serving on a committee or leading a small, short-term initiative that has potential system-level impacts. Qualification for and addition of a Manager I will be determined in partnership with system leaders to ensure system equity. The amount of time spent on administrative duties is determined at the facility / department level and based on the scope of the Manager Is responsibilities and in collaboration with peers to maintain equity across the system.

This pharmacy is open everyday, shifts will be rotating and managers will be salaried for 40H a week. The Hours of Operation: Mon to Fri 8:30a to 9p; Sat/Sun and Holidays 9:30am to 6pm.

Scope

As a Pharmacy Manager you need to know how to:

This position is responsible for the daily activities of the Pharmacy Department to ensure the smooth flow of operations. Also responsible for developing methods to improve existing systems or operations and to implement new services.
Manages the operations of the department. Manages daily operations, supervises personnel, ensures functionality of equipment and coordinates the provision of patient care services. Collaborates with the department management team in planning, program development, human resource management, budget planning, customer satisfaction, patient safety, communication and compliance with regulatory agencies. Performs pharmacist duties as required.
Evaluates service needs and volumes and adjusts staffing levels accordingly. Maintains effective and appropriate staffing and staff scheduling to ensure safe, quality patient care. Promotes staff flexibility and cross-training. Provides communication to associates and physicians through rounding, huddles, staff meetings and other forms of communication to relay updates regarding department updates, organizational activities, financial performance, educational opportunities, interdepartmental activities and QI activities.
Oversees and coordinates compliance for the department. Leads problem solving to address issues relating to patient safety, care and service. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team and interdepartmentally to facilitate that departments ability to meet its goals and objectives. Ensures coordination of care with other departments to promote the highest level of patient care and satisfaction. Participates in interdisciplinary committees throughout the organization.
Manages human resource functions such as interviewing, selection, orientation, education/training, feedback, performance evaluation, and policy and procedure development. Maintains personnel files, including documentation of appropriate staff orientation, competency, training, discipline and performance reviews. Oversees department timekeeping and payroll. Collaborates with HR concerning employee issues and performance. Conducts employee coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions and annual appraisals. Monitors staff adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Assists in the development of the department's operating and capital budget preparation and variance reporting. Participates in fiscal accountability of services, business plans for new services, and the organization of work within the department. Prepares and presents business plans, reports, and other statistical data. Monitors supply inventories and capital equipment purchases. Ensures equipment is maintained and functioning properly.
Partners with the department director and leadership team to identify and drive quality and performance improvement initiatives. Participates in establishing mechanisms to design, measure, maintain, and improve the performance and quality of department services. Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Participates with the management team and staff in development of action plans in line with the organization's strategic initiatives and goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with a five-year Bachelor of Science Degree or Pharm D.Current licensure by the state of practice in Pharmacy.Previous leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Five (5) years of experience in pharmacy practice, required- MBA or other pertinent degree.Board certification in pharmacy practice or other recognized BPS or relevant specialty.MTM (Medication Therapy Management) certification.EPIC proficient BLS and ACLS CPR Certifications.Immunization certification.340B CertificationsTwo (2) years of experience in hospital pharmacy.

Physical Requirements:

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$68.62 - $100.82
