Essential Functions
Maintains responsibility for resident training, direct supervision, formal performance evaluations, and the development and implementation of comprehensive program policies and procedures.Ensures continuous and thorough compliance with all American Society of Health-System Pharmacist (ASHP) accreditation regulations and standards governing residency programs, including meticulous documentation and timely reporting requirements.Fosters positive and collaborative relationships with other healthcare professionals across various disciplines within the practice setting to enhance the learning environment and inter-professional collaboration.Leads the recruitment and thorough evaluation of potential resident applicants through a structured process, ultimately selecting the most qualified candidates who align with program goals.Oversees the ongoing and systematic assessment of resident performance throughout the entire program, providing regular feedback and identifying areas for development.Designs and regularly updates the residency curriculum, including the structure of rotations, specific learning objectives, and diverse educational experiences, ensuring strong alignment with ASHP standards and the unique needs of the practice setting.Manages the development of preceptors by providing effective training, resources, and ongoing support to ensure they can effectively guide, mentor, and accurately evaluate residents during their assigned rotations.Provides comprehensive guidance and support to residents throughout their residency journey, actively promoting their professional growth, leadership development, and overall well-being.Monitors and critically evaluates the overall effectiveness of the residency program using various metrics, proactively identifying areas for improvement and implementing evidence-based changes to continuously enhance resident learning outcomes and the program's quality.Actively participates in and contributes to the design and implementation of quality improvement initiatives and research projects in close conjunction with other pharmacy staff and residents, fostering a culture of inquiry and innovation.Performs other duties as requested the Pharmacy Director, that do not compromise moral code of conduct or protocols set in place for patient or employee safetyAlthough the essential responsibilities of this role involve program management; significant modifications to the curriculum or program structure are contingent upon the approval of the Pharmacy Director and or the Program Oversight Committee.Supervised PositionsPGY1 ResidentsQualifications
Minimum Education RequiredDoctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited school of pharmacyCompletion of PGY1 ResidencyAlabama Pharmacy LicenseFederal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license to dispense control substanceMinimum Education PreferredCompletion of PGY1 and PGY2 ResidencyBoard Certified in at least one specialtyMinimum Experience RequiredMust meet all ASHP standards program director requirements.Completed PGY1 and minimum of three (3) years relevant pharmacy practice experience or Completed PGY1 and PGY2 with a minimum of one (1) year relevant pharmacy experience or minimum of five (5) years relevant pharmacy experience.Minimum Experience PreferredOne (1) year experience as Residency Program Director Experience designing and implementing pharmacy residency programExperience with ASHP accreditation of pharmacy residency program.Required Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
